The lights are on
According to Valve, Steam now has 65 million active accounts, growing 30 percent from a year ago. At its daily peak, about six million simultaneous users are on Steam, with Dota 2 being the game with the most players on at the same time.
Steam has had big changes recently, adding Greenlight, Big Picture Mode, Early Access, Family Sharing, Trading Cards and Linux support all within the last two years. It also recently announced the Steam Machine and Controller.
Our Take:Steam's popularity is no real surprise because Valve continues to innovate and sell games at ridiculously low prices (a Halloween sale is happening right now actually). I'm interested to see if the Steam Machines and Controller will continue this tradition of success.
Can't wait for the Steam Box! Its going to be my living room console
I literally just joined Steam not too long ago! My friend kept telling me to take the plunge, but I'm not a huge fan of gaming on my computer. I have to admit though...the sales are amazing.
It sounds good and can be beneficial for people but my account has been there for years and almost inactive. I think sales is what matters not how many people once signed up for a couple game purchases. But, every once in awhile I check in to see if there are any real deals on AAA titles that have gone bargain bin. I still don't like any of the DRM crap.
