EA Expects 10 Million Next-Gen Consoles On Shelf By March 31, 2014

by Mike Futter on Oct 29, 2013 at 12:09 PM

Speaking to investors during EA’s second quarter 2014 financial call, chief operating officer Peter Moore discussed how many consoles the company expects on shelves soon. According to Moore, Sony and Microsoft have suggested that there will be 10 million consoles on shelves by March 31, 2014.

Earlier in the call, EA stated its expectation that launch attach rates will be three games per console on average. EA uses these predictions to determine approximately how many next-gen titles it will sell between launch and the end of the fiscal year.

Our Take
As a reminder, this represents an aggregate of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 units. If true, that would get both platform holders off to a strong start. As the devices come to more territories, I expect that we’ll see the number of consoles increase significantly throughout 2014.
