Pikachu Becomes A Detective In Upcoming 3DS Title

by Mike Futter on Oct 28, 2013 at 02:22 PM

The Pokémon Company is hard at work on something that isn’t on the beaten path for Nintendo’s venerable RPG series. Pikachu will be your investigative sidekick in the 3DS title, which is due in 2015.

The news comes from Serebii, which states that the game was featured during a Japanese television show, The Professionals. The episode was focused on The Pokémon Company’s CEO, Tsunekaz Ishihara.

The title will reported feature a special blue Pikachu as the antagonist. The creature will reportedly talk and be controlled by facial recognition. For more check out TinyCartridge, which has gifs from the episode of The Professionals that demonstrates the game and the facial recognition. Pokémon X and Y released to strong critical claim and impressive sales on October 12, 2013.

Our Take
Pokémon might as well be a license for Nintendo to print money. In addition to the main RPG series, the franchise has gone in a number of surprising directions. If Pokémon Snap worked (and fans continue to demand its return), then I have little doubt that this title will succeed. I’m interested in learning more about the title and how facial recognition on the 3DS impacts the gameplay.
