Wii U Deluxe Adds Mario And Luigi, Drops Nintendo Land

by Mike Futter on Oct 23, 2013 at 03:30 AM

For those considering a Wii U purchase this holiday season, Nintendo is switching up its hardware bundle. At launch, the console came with Nintendo Land, a cute collection of mini-games based on familiar first-party franchises. This holiday, the brothers Mario are stepping in.

Starting on November 1, Nintendo will remove Nintendo Land from the package, replacing it with two games: New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. Nintendo Land is available from the eShop for $29.99.

Additionally, the Wind Waker HD bundle will still be available. This console comes with download codes for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and the Hyrule Historia. Both hardware bundles retail for $299.99.

Our Take
While Nintendo Land doesn't have the staying power of Wii Sports, my family and I spent many nights playing Mario Chase and Pikmin Adventure. Swapping in Mario and Luigi is a smart move, as the pair are icons, even to non-gamers.

The Wind Walker HD bundle is also extremely attractive and has a themed gamepad. The Hyrule Historia is fascinating, and if you don't mind not having a nice hardcover, the downloaded version is a great inclusion.
