PlayStation 4 Will Offer Real Name IDs At Launch

by Mike Futter on Oct 23, 2013 at 08:40 AM

Last week reported that Microsoft won't have its real name friends option ready for the console's launch. That prompted questions about Sony's plans for the publicized feature.

Sony has confirmed to Kotaku that PlayStation 4 users will be able to share their real names on November 15. This is merely an option, and there will be different privacy settings that allow users to control who gets to see the additional detail.

The PlayStation 4 is due on November 15 in the United States, with release coming to over 30 other territories on November 29.

Our Take
While some may choose to avoid this option altogether, for those that don't easily remember their friends PSN IDs, it's useful. I know that should I ever decide to share my ID, it will likely only be with select friends. Having a more detailed level of control over this information will be useful.
