PlayStation 4 Supports 8-Player Voice Chat

by Matthew Kato on Oct 23, 2013 at 04:38 AM

Update: Microsoft has responded to our inquiry regarding party size on Xbox One. You can read more about that feature here.

Original Story:

Unlike the PlayStation 3, the PlayStation 4 will have eight-player party chat.

In the comments section of a Killzone: Shadowfall Q&A at the official PlayStation Blog, Sid Shuman, Sony social media manager declared that the PS4 will have eight-player party chat. He also reiterated that PS4 users will be able to talk to Vita users.

As a point of comparison, the Xbox 360 currently supports eight-player party chat, while the PS3 does not. Microsoft has stated that the Xbox One will support at least eight people, but has not officially confirmed a max. number yet for its system.

Of course, whether you'll actually be able to use your existing headset at launch is another matter altogether.

Our Take:
It's great that PlayStation fans can finally join the party, but if Microsoft comes out with a higher number, then it's back to square one for the Sony crew. It sounds small, but these kinds of minutia are the sorts of details that lead people to choosing one system over another.
