The lights are on
We've been joyriding through Los Santos for more than a month, but Japan only got its localized version last week, and it performed well.
The Grand Theft Auto series does not command the same popularity in Japan as it does in North America, but it still posted some respectable numbers. According to a report form Siliconera, on PlayStation 3, the game sold 360,115 copies and on Xbox 360 the game sold 26,612 copies in its first week on the shelves. This makes GTA V the best debut Grand Theft Auto has ever had in Japan.
Our TakeIt's always interesting to see how our most popular games fare in other parts in the world. Grand Theft Auto has always been a series that prides itself on the lampooning of American culture, so it's not too surprising that it does not resonate with Japanese players in the same way as it does with North American players.

Something good to hear
atleast its a start
As it should be.
No surprise that it sold more on PS3.
Japan stopped playing console games years ago, show the monthly top ten selling console games figures so we can put these numbers in perspective.
I'm just surprised they even have 26,612 xbox360 there.
I cannot pick this game up!
A developer out of Scotland makes a game set in a satirical version of America and it does not sell all that well in Japan, a country with a culture so...."unique" most people cant begin to understand it. Makes sense
How about they fix online from not saving crap!
