The lights are on
It began its life as Blizzard Dota, but after a tiff with Valve, the company opted to rename its in-progress multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title. It seems that the Blizzard All-Stars name isn't sticking around, though. You can now call it Heroes of the Storm.
We reported on the Heroes of the Storm trademark filing in late September. Now that the title has a name, perhaps we'll learn more about what makes it different than all the other MOBAs. You can see the cute name change announcement video below.
Our TakeThe MOBA genre fits such a narrow set of expectations that it's hard for those coming to the genre new to understand what sets the games apart. Lanes, minions, towers, etc. all seem consistent across titles. It will be interesting to see if Blizzard is able to do something different with its contribution to the genre and whether the company will be able to lure fans of its other games.

With LoL, HoN, DotA, and others, I will be interested in seeing what Bliz can do to make theirs special when I already have so much time put into the other ones.
Gosh darn it I just wanna play the game already! Also, that video was waaay too cute for it's own good-- I almost died of nostalgia just watching it!
Wonder if with the new title, they'll have some alternate reality lore with it... so lore in a minute can make a video of about it.
too funny, hope the game comes out soon
literally any game with multiplayer could be called Multiplayer Online Battle Arena
So far the only MOBA I've managed to get slightly interested in was Awesomenauts, and I think it was mostly from the character's charm. Hopefully this one can do the same and draw me into the genre a bit more.
They are too late to the party. I don't think they will be much more innovative than LoL and Smite.
It'll still be a huge hit because the genre is just exploding, but for me, it's far too late. Dota 2 is my home now.
