The lights are on
Last week saw the release of the first 3DS Pokémon adventure (and we liked it). Nintendo is pretty happy with it, too. The new title has sold over four million copies in its first two days.
Pokémon X and Y were an ambitious release for Nintendo, which sent the game to retail simultaneously worldwide. The title is on pace to sell more than Pokémon Black and White 2 by more than 70 percent.
Nintendo also revealed that five titles in the series have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. They are:
Our TakeThere is no denying the power of Pokémon. The series has enthralled gamers young and old since its inception on the Game Boy. X and Y have particular nostalgic value thanks to the appearance of the original three starter Pokémon. If you are planning on catching them all (if that is even still possible), Nintendo is no doubt happy for your business.
I feel like this is the first real evolution of the series in a long time. I want to pick it up when I get a 3ds and that's the first Pokémon game to make me say that since silver on the GB Color.
With the ability to ask for Pokemon you haven't registered in your Pokedex on the GTS, I think catching them all is more feasible than ever now.
I haven't seriously played Pokemon since Gold and Silver but I wanted to see if I could get back into it, and I did.
The game is great but there is a lot I have to get used to since I've been gone since Gen 2. Like that Pokemon are much more versatile now. Hell, I have a Pokemon in X right now that knows a Fire, Dark, Ghost, and Ground move and it could have learned another move that was a different type earlier. I've also noticed that the moves that drop Pokemon's attack, defense, etc, actually seem important now and actually seem to do something unlike the past Pokemon games.
The only thing I still find laughable is that Mega Evolutions really are just Digivolving. You're evn told in the game that it has to do with the bond between the trainer and his/her Pokemon. The only way Digimon could Digivolve was when the bond between it and the Digidestined grew strong enough. Just saying...
Not really too surprising.
Well worth your money
Deserves it so much. These are the games pokemon fans have wanted since the series' inception.
So, at $39.99 a pop x 4,000,000 Nintendo just generated more money in two days than Capcom has in the bank. Generated, mind you, not made. But still, the big N probably made what, $80-100 million?
I got so addicted to this game over the weekend. Nuzlocke ftw!
Not surprising, but totally deserved. I'm loving Y. Playing it is like getting another chance to experience Pokemon for the first time.
Sound like a Game of the Year.
Well done and well deserved, I'm having a fantastic time with the game :] One of the better Pokemon releases having not been into Pokemon since Emerald.
