The lights are on
CryEngine developers Crytek (Ryse: Son of Rome) have ambitious free-to-play plans, and FPS Warface is a major piece of this puzzle. The game comes out soon, and you can take a look at the game courtesy of its latest trailer.
Warface comes out on October 21, and the free-to-play FPS – thanks to CryEngine 3 – looks like the triple-A title that it strives to be. It features four soldier classes you can switch to at any time, and teaming up with a friend can earn you special moves.
If you're interested in the game, be sure to read Tim's impressions of the game's co-op.
Our Take:There is a stigma behind free-to-play titles, but making Warface visually appealing with CryEngine 3 is a good first step towards breaking that up. Perhaps another difference maker is Crytek's integrated Gface social platform.

It does sound rather interesting, especially look that good and being Free-to=Play. I will definitely have to try it out later this month.
No doubt it will look good, but it's Crytek. So I can't help but wonder how many standard shooter tropes we'll see.
Isn't this PS4 launch, too?
The few hours I played in Beta were a lot of fun... looking forward to it.
I've been registered to be invited for the beta since a year back, but a friend of mine got into the Russian version. I'm gonna warn you right now gents -- it really sounds like the game is harsh to F2P gamers. At least in Russia, there's a strong push to pay to win.
It had a pretty decent beta, minus balancing issues here and there.
It's pretty interesting but I'm not interested at all to be honest, to many other great IP's to get too..
I'm surprised at how much fun "Happy Wars" is on the "XBOX 360"!!! I'm a Level 40 "Spartan" and I've even made a few micro-transactions for my characters. I've also seen "World of Tanks" on "Twitch.TV" and I had the Beta on my "XBOX 360", but nothing FTP has looked near as impressive as "WarFace"!!!
I've had a blast with the "BattleField 4" Beta, but I'd love to see "WarFace" compete toe-to-toe with "Happy Wars" in the FTP series!!! I'd also love to see "Vindicus" and the new FTP "Command & Conquer" make their way to the "XBOX ONE".... ^_^
Whenever I see Free To Play, I pass right on by since the whole model gouges the hell out of your wallet if you really want to play!
They are still going to nickel and dime you till you have spent more then $60 anyway so no thank you. I hate free to play games!
I'm interested to see Homefront 2
