The lights are on
Update: We've received official word from Ubisoft. Watch Dogs is indeed delayed.
The link to the Ubisoft blog announcement is not working currently, but we've been informed by an Ubisoft representative that it is due to high traffic. The quote below is accurate.
What was shaping up to be one of the fall's most intriguing titles will now be one of the most intriguing titles of 2014.
According to a NeoGAF post, this was published on the official Ubisoft Blog (as of right now, the post appears to have been taken down):
"Following is a statement directly from the Watch_Dogs development teams.
Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.
We know a lot of you are probably wondering 'why now?' We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.
We can't wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you'll love this game as much as we love working on it."
We have reached out to Ubisoft for official comment and will continue to report the facts as we learn more.

Our Take:While it's disappointing for those excited for Watch Dogs, I always applaud a publisher giving a development team the time it needs to perfect a game. Watch Dogs is an ambitious experience, and rushing out a substandard product wouldn't benefit anyone.

This game is going to be delayed as long as Duke Nukem Forever or Final Fantasy X HD >:)
I agree with the "our take", a rushed game is no ones friend. If that's the real reason they are pushing it back, not to stay out of gtav's blast zone. I think it would be hilarious if they go to launch in spring and get delayed again because of next gen gta v.
im crying right now, im totally on the floor throwing a fit of epic proportions right now.
Was really looking forward to this game. Hope the delay will improve the game.
There goes my November, only game I was looking forward too. I had it preordered with my PS4. Can't wait to play any other launch game, yippee.... Thamks Ubi, for ruining my holiday season.
Just saw it on Facebook my bf totally is disappointed I am too but hey what would do good if its rushed? A game filled with glitches and problems its gonna be worth the wait so I won't complain much didn't have money for Watch Dogs anyway :/
Better than pushing the release. Assassin's Creed III's bugs made that game so underwhelming.
I'm a bit bummed that I won't be able to get this at launch. But I'm glad that they're committed to making it a high quality experience as opposed to launching it buggy and needing a huge day-1 patch. *CoughAC3Cough*
I'm both bummed and relieved by this news. I was very much looking forward to playing Watch Dogs next month (I'm actually set to review it for a site I write for as well) but at the same time trying to juggle it along with Batman: Arkham Origins, ACIV, and CoD: Ghosts wasn't a prospect I was looking forward to.
Now at least I'll have more time to devote to the other big-name AAA releases of late 2013 plus, if this gives Ubisoft more time to iron out the game's bugs, so much the better.
Ah man I was looking forward to playing this soon.
well there goes my launch title.
Fine with me, one less collectors edition to buy. Sucks though because now I only have ac4 for ps4 next month :(
This really sucks,I need a new launch game for the PS4.
Preorder canceled, and I'm not confident I'll get this game at all now. While I agree it's in their best interest to take the time they need to perfect the game, I was only interested in this to have a nice single player experience at launch. With it falling into the spring of '14, I don't see it stealing me away from multiplayer giants once they are up and running.
I just wish they could have pushed harder to have it ready for release... and I'm not entirely sure this isn't just a way to try to get more AC4 preorders.
My wallet thanks them and my spirit thanks them for not rushing to meet an "arbitrary" deadline. It beats under-performing. As long as this really helps them...
While I am very anxious to play Watch Dogs, I'm ok with a delay. Frankly, there are a lot of other games coming out in the next three months to keep me PLENTY occupied until this releases.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Super Mario 3D World, A Link Between Worlds, Arkham Origins, Assassins Creed IV (maybe)...
A delay for Watch Dogs really just means more breathing room for my wallet. I can wait.
