The lights are on
Square Enix has been releasing its early Final Fantasy games on iOS one by one over the years. And Final Fantasy VI is up for release this winter. One would assume that Final Fantasy VII wouldn't be much farther off. Apparently, that's not the case.
Producer Takashi Tokita told Shacknews that fans shouldn't hold their breath. "Unfortunately, it's not that it's not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile," Tokita says. "It's that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."
Our Take:While I certainly understand Square Enix's concerns about taking up too much space on phones, it seems strange that there was to problem releasing on PSP and Vita. Most players' memory cards aren't as large as the biggest 64 GB iPhone. Though Shacknews notes that Apple has a 2 GB-per app size limit. One thing that we can all agree on is that Square Enix will price FF VII on iOS much higher than the $9.99 it currently lists at on PSN.

You can always make it available for tablets Enix. Just put the game out already.
I really don't get why Square doesn't do things with FF7. They won't remake the game because they say it'll take time and money, even though it would make them a ton of money, and now this. I understand that the game is over 1 gig in space, but that hasn't stopped numerous app developers from releasing games for IOS and android that are over a gig. And this is coming from the same company that got mad after Tomb Raider sold over 3 million copies because they were expecting the game to sell over 6 million copies, and also got mad for Sleeping Dogs selling 1.2 million copies when they wanted the game to sell 3 million copies for a new IP.
If you're an android user, this won't make that much of a difference to you. A lot of people just use emulators to games such as this on their tablets; the fact that Square isn't grabbing for releasing an official version is crazy.
I can just get it on Vita so I don't really care. Not to mention, I just don't plan on getting it at all.
I play my PSX ISO on my Droid Bionic using an emulator. Works quite well actually, only minor slowdown :)
Sounds like an excuse to me. My Lumia's got 32gb of space on it - using up one or two isn't going to kill it or me.
That said, I doubt it'll ever get a windows phone release. I love WP in general, but their apps and third party support are waaaaaaaaaaay behind the curve.
Who cares here, really? Is anyone dying to play FFVII on their phone? And while we're on the subject of Final Fantasy, can we have Atlus make FF16, please? I'm not liking the direction 15 is heading, and I'm about 90% sure Atlus could make a better FF game than Squeenix...
Cant wait for them to charge 20$ for a 10$ game!
Forget mobile devices, I'd love to see a complete console remake. Looks like that one is going to be a while too...
Mobile games over a gigabyte in size is not at all uncommon these days. Games like Infinity Blade III and Modern Combat 4 are over 2GB.
Why not? They've already milked it dry on just about every other platform. Why not give it a crappy iOS & android port and charge $20 for it.
I love FFVII, but fans need to let it be. If you love it so much just play the original. SE as it is right now probably isn't capable of handling the game with the dignity and respect it deserves anyway.
"PSPGo", "PSP3000" and "PSVita" all offer great "PSOne" Editions of "FF7, "FF8" and "FF9". Though portability aside, I'd love to see the "Steam" Edition make the jump to 1080p on "Steam" and the "XBOX ONE"!!! I still can't believe that the Steam version of "FF7" is smaller than the "PSPGo" Edition of "FF8" which weighs in at a good 1.8 Gigs with the original 320x240 pre-rendered backgrounds.
It seems that there are only two options for a proper HD treatment. Integrate a 1080p up-scale engine into the game, I got a $70 1080p Sony DVD player off Amazon.com and it up-scales the 320x240 DVD image beautifully!!! Or just re-scan the original backgrounds in 1080p and quintuple the install size with the current "Steam" Edition engine. I love the "PSPGo" versions, but it's time we saw a proper 10-14 Gig Edition of "FF7" and "FF8" on "Steam" and "XBLA"!!! ^_^
To be honest I'm surprised that Final Fantasy VII hasn't already been ported to iOS, but I'm sure it will at some point. This game was so amazing, epic, and groundbreaking that it should come back again.
IOS its a fu#$%ing Plague to gaming.
anyone that want to play this on the go just buy a vita.
