Final Fantasy VII Not Headed To iOS Any Time Soon

by Bryan Vore on Oct 14, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Square Enix has been releasing its early Final Fantasy games on iOS one by one over the years. And Final Fantasy VI is up for release this winter. One would assume that Final Fantasy VII wouldn't be much farther off. Apparently, that's not the case.

Producer Takashi Tokita told Shacknews that fans shouldn't hold their breath. "Unfortunately, it's not that it's not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile," Tokita says. "It's that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."

Our Take:
While I certainly understand Square Enix's concerns about taking up too much space on phones, it seems strange that there was to problem releasing on PSP and Vita. Most players' memory cards aren't as large as the biggest 64 GB iPhone. Though Shacknews notes that Apple has a 2 GB-per app size limit. One thing that we can all agree on is that Square Enix will price FF VII on iOS much higher than the $9.99 it currently lists at on PSN.
