Killer Instinct Teams Up With Penny Arcade To Release Limited Box Version

by Kyle Hilliard on Oct 13, 2013 at 09:26 AM

Microsoft and Penny Arcade are working together to release a limited version of Killer Instinct. There still won't be a disc, or an official retail release, but there will be a box.

The boxed version of the game, which you can only get from Microsoft's store, comes with a download code for the Ultra Edition of the game, which basically gets you all the characters and DLC for the game's planned first season, and a copy of the original Killer Instinct game. The box doubles as a case for Penny Arcade's collectible pins, and it will include a Killer Instinct logo pin, a Jago pin, and room for others. Penny Arcade's Mike "Gabe" Krahulik will be designing more Killer Instinct pins which be obtainable at Penny Arcade events and online.

We recently spoke with Killer Instinct's producer about Killer Instinct, and how the use of the Cloud will affect the game's balancing. You can read all about it here.

Our Take
DuckTales recently did something remarkably similar. WayForward and Capcom did not partner with Penny Arcade, but it did release a disc-free, retail box version of the game that came with a DuckTales pin. Who would have thought that DuckTales would inspire Killer Instinct.
