The lights are on
Half-Life and Portal have been frequently used as the backdrop for fan films. Portal: Survive! takes us to a moment not often seen, though: the moment of GLaDOS' awakening.
The film was created by Colin and Connor McGuire at YouTube Space LA. The pair state that the entire production budget was under $500, including the GLaDOS prop created by Angry Dog Studios' Jimmy Burns.
You might recognize the one crafty scientist from the Portal 2 tie-in comic called Lab Rat. You can read that here and watch Portal: Survive! below.

We could all use a little more Aperture Science in our lives.
I'll just be tanking that Glados, thank you
What always astounds me is how Portal can be such an intense story and in many ways quite terrifying, but at the same time be so humorous and silly. The humor is there, but the story and the lore is still epic and sometimes creepy.
Nice. $500 huh? Apparently a lot of people were willing to donate their time and efforts for free. For the good of science I imagine.
No idea how they pulled that off for less than $500. But....WOW, holy crap did they do a good job! I really think portal would make an awesome movie. It could be like the movie Demon Seed but instead of obsessive, the AI becomes increasingly snarky and petty until it becomes a "mean girl". Of course J K Simmons would have to play the head scientist. Maybe throw in Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as lab assistants. Portal 2 really laid out a ton of story for a hilarious comedy/thriller.
Shows people with 500 dollars can make a better 7 minute movie than a 2 hours movie with a 100 million budget.
I didn't like it.
epic. see universal.. it can be a good idea.. just don't ruin it.
Now I want to break Portal back out...for the 78th time.
Now THIS is how you make a fan film!
That was done really well. It made me more creeped out by GLaDOS than ever before.
