The lights are on
It's no surprise when Square Enix announces that a title from its back catalog is coming to mobile devices. The next title to get the iOS and mobile treatment will be Final Fantasy VI.
The news comes by way of Kotaku, which spoke with director and producer Takashi Tokita. The title will offer a revamped battle system to prevent the need for excessive grinding, and the graphics will be enhanced.
The new version of Final Fantasy VI (originally released in North America on the Super Nintendo in 1994 as Final Fantasy III) will be out on mobile devices this winter.
Our TakeThis port is likely going to be expensive...and by that I mean more expensive than the digital platforms you can already get it on. As much as I love Final Fantasy VI (it's my favorite in the series), I can't help but wince every time Square Enix milks one of its games like this. I'm not shelling out $15 or $20 for a 20-year-old game. The title currently sells for $10 on PlayStation Network.

If it means this gen of gamers will be able to play the greatest game of all time, it's a good thing, I guess. Not my platform of choice, but if it's what the kids these days are vidyagaming on, at least they'll have something of quality to play on it.
I'm not usually one to complain about graphics, but I bought this game on WiiWare a few months back, and I HATE looking at it. It looks so muddy and so awful on my giant flatscreen television that I can't stand even turning it on. I wish I had waited a little while for it to come out on iOS, but I guess it's too late for that. I'm not buying it twice.
I really need to get around to this whole series, but at least this one still looks pretty good.
I'll laugh like I always do when the iOS version is more expensive than the Virtual Console version for some reason.
I feel like Square was a great athlete that became a bitter old drunk and now yells in its stupor about its past achievements, but it just comes out as garbled mess marring the memory of their golden age.
Awesome! Too bad they will probably charge 20$ for it.
Why does it seem like you guys always get your news from Kotaku? Anyways, your'e right. Your'e better off just buying the PSN version and if you have a Vita just play that on the go.
Someday I want this headline to read "Final Fantasy XV" and replace mobile with "PS4, X-Box One, Wii U."
for 15 bucks I bet.
Prepare for a vomit inducing sprite reskin ala FFV ios. Your childhood (and mine) WILL be ruined by this.
This is one true gem of the Final Fantasy series and coming to mobile devices is great but it would be nice to have it on the 3DS, Vita and other handhelds.
Are you kidding me? You have to pay to get this game? Not happening!
I'll sadly admit that whatever the price, I'll pay it. I'm an FFVI junkie. This is my favorite game in the series, and probably my favorite RPG of all time. And really, the $15.99 this game will probably be is worth it. I know it's cheaper on the PSN if you download it, and it's probably cheaper if you buy a physical copy of Final Fantasy Anthology, but the 30+ hours of gameplay is definitely worth $16 in my opinion.
