The lights are on
Both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 offer paid subscription services, and that trend is going to continue with the next generation. PlayStation 4 will require PlayStation Plus for multiplayer gaming, and Xbox One will require a Gold subscription to access multiplayer and streaming capabilities. Recent years have seen the inclusion of free games for subscribers (including the recently-announced Shadow of the Colossus offering for PS+), which have been a nice bonus for those looking to extend their backlog. If you subscribe to one or both of these console services, do you feel like you're getting your money's worth?
Perhaps you're satisfied with a yearly fee in exchange for Instant Game Collection or Games With Gold. Maybe you're upset about Sony and Microsoft locking online gaming behind a paywall. We'd like to hear what you think, so sound off in the comments below.

Absolutly I buy ps plus NOW even before the PS4 was announced because it is worth the money.
I absolutely think they are well worth it, especially PS+, and I would imagine both Xbox One and PS4(obviously) will have similar types of deals with the paid subscription, in other words, expect a lot more freebies on Xbox...hopefully!
I love my PS+. I have gotten more free games from there, than I will ever get to play. And IT is the reason I started playing The Walking Dead when the first two Episodes were free.
I have PS Plus and my only complaint is that there are too many free games, and too little time.
If I was given the choice between gold and plus I will NEVER choose the service that changed (on a whim) one of their founding principles of free online multiplayer.
I have enjoyed my PS+ membership. The discounts are worth more in my opinion than the free games. I did not like XBox Gold because you had no choice but to pay for it if you wanted to play online. I am not a big online gamer. Now that the PS 4 is requiring a paid subscription I still feel it is a better value for me than XBox Gold. Discounts and free games. The online is just a side effect to it.
My gold subscription is ending soon and I have to say it isn't worth it at all. I literally have seen no difference whatsoever in the services' qualities. In 10 days, I will be using my xbox as a single-player game only device without anything else going for it because I need to pay for gold to pay for Netflix or use my Youtube account on it. Xbox would have something good for it if they only had online gaming behind the pay wall like the PS4 is going to do. You can even play F2P games day 1 on PS4 without PS+. I completely regret buying an xbox but I'm not even going to sell it because a quarter of my game library is on it. Think what you want, but on both PS3 AND XBOX I have encountered racist little kids and *** 30 yr olds. I'd just rather pay for extra services and (good) free games instead of shady pay-walls and restrictions. I pay for a console, I want good service for the hundreds of dollars I spend on it.
I enjoy the ps+. I just got it in August. Love it. Money we'll spent and the free games are with it.
I really enjoy ps plus but lately when i see every month the games that europe get and the games that we get i kinda feel like we are getting handed rubbish.
I'm fine with Live, and Azure looks to make the service even better going into next gen. I'd be happy if they kept the Games With Gold program going, but I don't know if they'll be able to since they are giving away games rather than renting them like Sony does.
I am interested to see how PS+ works in transitioning to the PS4. There won't be a ton of games available right off the bat, so I wonder if they'll reduce the games offered or if they will continue as they have, sacrificing potential retail sales.
PS+ is incredible. The amount and quality of the free games is amazing. If you have a PS Vita too, it's even better.
I was hesitant about getting the PS+ subscription. After doing so, I do not regret getting quality free games every month. I've actually spent less this year on games yet played more titles. I'm a happy camper going into the next generation of gaming.
I've been a PS+ member almost as long as its been available, and its one of the best purchases I've ever made. If I find myself bored of replaying any of my games for the sixth time, I can just to PSN and find an interesting game for free that might tide me over until the next big release. However, I am slightly upset that I'm going to have to pay to play online on PS4; now I won't be able to throw free multiplayer into my friends' faces when we talk about whether xbox or playstation is better.
not big on the change with ps4 needing ps+ for the multiplayer , that said i don't mind it too much considering i already pay for ps+ cause the 'free' games , its worth the money imo since i originally got it for a few discounts.
live gold membership on the otherhand i feel is a rip-off , and while they seeeem to be trying to take a page from sony's book in giving free games ( just recently) its still not worth it imo , i stopped paying for gold when i got a ps3 and the multiplayer in it was free and i've not looked back and since then my 360 (3rd one) has once again died from unreadable disc area so i've forsaken the falty system and sold all the games that i'll probly never play again (sadly) due to refusing to buy another 360.
all this said you never know what next gen is gonna bring a few years in so we'll see how things go.
Free games and discounts on other items for playstation plus. Money well spent
Ever since I bought a replacement console, had my content license transfer fail, and spent two and a half months trying to get Microsoft to come up with a fix... I have felt the annual subscription fee for Xbox Live was not worth it.
I'll pay the subscription fee. I understand that the subscriptions are for things like server maintenance and the like that help make the online services fun and working properly.
