The lights are on
In February 2012, we had the opportunity to talk with Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann about an abandoned reboot of Jak and Daxter. Today we finally get a look at some of the concept art the studio was working on.
The images come by way of Druckmann's recent IGDA talk captured by Toronto radio station AM640's Andy Borkowski. You can see the entirety of the talk on AM640's website.

Our TakeI appreciate Naughty Dog's reasons for abandoning the Jak & Daxter reboot. Druckmann and partner Bruce Straley were afraid their efforts were more marketing-driven than creatively inspired. The choice to move on and start fresh ultimately led them to The Last of Us. I think they made the right call.

Very happy they squashed the project, Jak and Daxter was my favorite video game series growing up as a kid. Jak II in particular was just a crazy game at the time, Jak and Daxter was my first PS2 game ever and I played it to death. Then Jak II comes out, and Jak can talk and is just the baddest guy around.
***, now I need to get that HD collection.
Ahhhhhh, Scary! No one should see this! No ONE!This is awful!
Daxter looks kind of like rocket raccoon from that new guardians of the galaxy movie coming out.
They should still do another Jak sequel. Not a realistic-reboot, though. That Daxter concept art looks cool, but not for a game.
I actually liked the art. Making it a little more life like would have been an intersting twist on the game.
Ugh. looks like they abandoned it with good reason. That looks awful. I'm all for rebooting, but this doesn't even feel like the same thing. I think they made the right choice by scrapping this.
They made the right call. Damn you next gen graphics! Damn you.
looks fine to me. Its just concept arts...
The Jak & Daxter series is still my favorite one over any I've played so far. Yeah, I know some folks would completely disagree, but for some reason, I had the most fun playing Jak & Daxter. I would love for Naughty Dog to do a reboot of the series, but I'm also glad they decided to go a different route, for the sake of the series. Hopefully we'll get a new Jak & Daxter for the next gen consoles!
