The lights are on
Author and inspiration for many of gaming's greatest military- and spy-themed games Tom Clancy passed away last night. His publisher has confirmed the news to the New York Times and CNN.
Clancy's first novel, The Hunt for Red October (published in 1984), was turned into a film and a video game in 1990. Our thoughts go out to Mr. Clancy's family and friends.
Update: Ubisoft, publisher of the games bearing Tom Clancy's name, has shared the following statement on its Facebook page.

My condolences go out to the family. Mr. Clancy was an extraordinary researcher and author. He will be missed; but his work has opened the door to reading for many.
I dont know the guy but I heard about his books and of course the game. I just want to say thank you for being with us on this Earth and share with us your thoughts and imagination. It inspired us in so many ways. Thank you for this awesome experience. Keep using your gift in Heaven when we get there. ( For those who believe in Heaven ) Ill see you there when the right time comes
Wow, one of the first authors I ever followed, read his books when I was but ten years old. I still have fond memories of the op center series.
However, I've never liked a game that bore his name, though I've tried to.
Great man. Never knew who he was until after reading Red October. I only knew his name from the many games published by Ubisoft. May his work continue on for the future.
NOOOOOOOOO! At least his works will live on, as many other authors already pen them under his banner, so he could focus on his own novels...
Condolences to his loved ones. RIP Tom Clancy, you will be missed.
This is horrible, totally not expected
