The lights are on
Now that Thief developer Eidos Montreal has resurrected the Deus Ex franchise, it's continuing it into the next-generation of home consoles and more with Deus Ex: Universe.
Deus Ex: Universe kicks off with a next-gen/PC title, but also extends to a larger franchise world that Eidos Montreal is creating.
"The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding, and connected game world built across a generation of core games," writes David Anfossi, the head of the Eidos Montreal studio in the company's blog. "It's a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before."
Anfossi goes on to say that the Universe brand will extend to tablets, smartphones, books, and other mediums and platforms. Eidos Montreal is handling the development on the next-gen game, but Anfossi did not specify if it will handle some of these other projects.
The first artwork for the game (click the below image for an enlarged version) shows off one of the themes of Universe: "trans-humanism segregation." Here this group of people have created their own enclave and "reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance."
No release timeframe was given for the next-gen/PC Deus Ex: Universe game.

Our Take:Hopefully publisher Square Enix is fully committed to see this project through to the end, because a involving, large-scale Deus Ex world sounds exciting.

Mother of God yes! I'm so happy we are getting another full feature game. I wasn't that jazzed about The Fall, mainly because I'm not a ipad person. HR gave the world new life that was amazing to explore, I really hope it continues.
Transhumanism continues--but what's all this tablets, smartphones, books, and other crap? I don't have the time or dedication for all that. Just give me a game and I'm fine with that.
idk what to think of this yet . i originally had zero intrest in HR but i got it for my now ex husband and ended up loving the game myself ( we would take turns playing our own saves depending on time of day ) so who knows with this next 1 , from all the extra this that mentioned for it above it sounds like they might have overly high expectations, honestly just focus on making one great game and going from there would be better imo :/
A new Deus Ex game on next gen consoles...about time.
I am the happiest Gray on Earth right now.
After Deus Ex: Invisible War released in 2003, people considered it not as Godly as Deus Ex 1, sales weren't as grandiose and the entire series was on the verge of dying. There was a sequel to Invisible War called Deus Ex: Clan Wars but it was changed and renamed Project Snowblind which is considered a spirtual successor to IW. Fans had nearly given up hope on seeing another in the DE series.
It really is a dream come true to see Human Revolutions succeed and now Deus Ex Universe! This is incredible. Also, Directors Cut to be released October 22! Confirmed by Eidos Montreal.
This sounds pretty cool but I wasn't a big fan of Deus Ex at all. I felt the gameplay was extremely clunky and slow, I'm interested in this though.
Please don't have a yellow filter...
Tentatively excited. Just as long as they split this up among different teams so the tablet and phone stuff doesn't distract from the core games.
After being disappointed by The Fall being a tablet game, I am excited to see what Universe will turn out to be.
Next-gen Deus Ex!
Love Human Revolution and the concept behind this sounds very promising. Will definitely keep an eye on this.
The artwork reminds me of Remember Me's concept work.
This sounds awesome! Increasing the scope of a game beyond itself sounds great which is the impression I get from what was said. Looking forward to it!
I definitely love the idea of this universe. I really hope full commitment for this project happens. If so, there is a lot of potential.
