Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Meets Stretch Goal, Gets Playable Risky Boots

by Mike Futter on Sep 30, 2013 at 03:00 AM

WayForward's Kickstarter campaign for the fourth title in the Shantae series met its funding goal last week. Now, with four days to go, the first of the many stretch goals has been met.

With the campaign crossing the $500,000 mark, WayForward will be building in a mode for players to take control of antagonist Risky Boots. The next stretch goal is at $600,000, which will see the creation of a new chapter filled with magic carpet races.

The campaign currently sits at just under $510,000. If you'd like to learn more or contribute, you can check out the Kickstarter page.

Our Take
WayForward has found great success with its commissioned and original titles. Shantae has a loyal following, and I'm happy to see the studio find success with Kickstarter. My general concern about excessive stretch goals remains intact, but that doesn't look like it should be a big issue in this case.
