The lights are on
WayForward's Kickstarter campaign for the fourth title in the Shantae series met its funding goal last week. Now, with four days to go, the first of the many stretch goals has been met.
With the campaign crossing the $500,000 mark, WayForward will be building in a mode for players to take control of antagonist Risky Boots. The next stretch goal is at $600,000, which will see the creation of a new chapter filled with magic carpet races.
The campaign currently sits at just under $510,000. If you'd like to learn more or contribute, you can check out the Kickstarter page.
Our TakeWayForward has found great success with its commissioned and original titles. Shantae has a loyal following, and I'm happy to see the studio find success with Kickstarter. My general concern about excessive stretch goals remains intact, but that doesn't look like it should be a big issue in this case.

With games like this, we see Kickstarter at its finest.
This is probably one of the best examples of how Kickstarter has helped a company to develop new games.
Mike, What is the problem with stretch goals? I am just wondering. I have funded any kickstarter campaigns so I was wondering.
I haven't played any of the Shantae games but I am always glad to hear that a dev is able to make a new game. Look forward to seeing more about this.
I really wanted to see the costume swap stretch goal met. Getting to replay with rebalanced stats and new abilities like Ninja Shantae or Might Switch Force Shantae would have been cool.
I really hope it hits 700K, but not sure it will make it. Looks brilliant so far.
