The lights are on
Last week, we shared news that Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is the first of October's free Games with Gold. Today we know that Halo 3 is rounding out the month. From October 1 through 15, you can download Clash of Heroes at no cost if you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber. From October 16 through 31, it's Halo 3. If you happened to miss 2007's Halo 3 (or the three main series titles since then), this seems like a good time to put on the Mjolnir armor.[Source: Xbox Wire]Our TakeIf it weren't for PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection, Microsoft's two games per month would be unequivocally heralded as a great offer. Unfortunately, when one of those titles is six years old, the inevitable comparisons to Sony's five games per month and titles that are far more recent (Battlefield 3, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Saints Row: The Third) aren't flattering. People are going to take that opportunity to complain about getting something for free. That isn't good for gamers or Microsoft.

I still think Halo 3 was the best in the Halo series. I've been waiting so long for Microsoft to release it for free, but I was under the impression, it would be sooner, rather than later. Oh well, thats what I get for being cheap.
Still own Halo 3, but whatever I'll download it and play through campaign again.
Xbox should have waited for December with this title. Now what title are they going to bring out next to make people want to keep gold?
Best. Game. Ever.
playstation plus is pretty good to bad it comes with that playstation network.
I want a digital version of Halo 3 (my favorite Halo game) so I'm ok with this.
Cool! Hopefully a lot more people will play it again. I know that I'll jump back in.
Damn, Microsoft is cheap. I have downloaded a few games, but I've erased them all. I do take advantage of the sales though. Great deals on fairly recent games.
Why not Dishonored? Or Skyrim? Or GTA IV? uh... Bad Microsoft. Bad.
Halo 3... ah yes. Probably the most innovative FPS game this generation. It added Forge, Theater, file sharing, 4 player online co-op, a great story mode, and a great selection of multiplayer modes and customizability.
So, I played Halo 3 recently, and I don't think that it aged that well. It has pretty repetitive multiplayer and the campaign is way too easy and way too short. That is, compared to Halo 2, Halo Reach, and Halo 4, which all had longer campaigns and (in my opinion) better multiplayer.
Their overall package might not be as good as the ones from Sony, but this is still a good way to attract an entire new generation of gamers that have yet to play Halo. At the end of the day the game is free, so there is not much to complain about.
Such old games. Where's the incentive in that? You can buy this game used for around $5. LOL. Oh well Microsoft is late to the party as is tradition.
Cool for Halo 3. Never played it but always wanted to.
I already have Halo 3, like most 360 owners, but at least it'll be nice to have a digital copy, in case my 360's disc drive craps out again. That, and I can't complain about getting free stuff.
Um.... Not to sound ungrateful... it isn't for free. We pay a huge amount for Live and then still have to pay for other subscriptions on the service and then deal with tons of ads. I may be irked still for what they tried with the Xbox 1 and the removal of my Family Gold but still...
