Reader Discussion: Will You Purchase A Steam Machine?

by Matt Miller on Sep 25, 2013 at 07:49 AM

All sorts of information about Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine remains to be detailed and clarified, but we’re beginning to get a picture of the overall scope and ambition of the plan. Valve will produce its own prototype version of the Steam Machine with a beta beginning later this year, but also open up the ability for its hardware partners to craft their own boxes that run SteamOS.

Early messaging about the Steam Machine focuses on Valve’s goal to make these living room-friendly gaming PCs highly open and upgradeable. Rather than a single box, it appears that gamers will have their pick of different Steam Machines that each have their own specs, presumably within a spread of acceptable ranges.

What do you think about the Steam Machine? Do you have plans to purchase some variation of Valve’s new PC? How does the Steam Machine fit into your decision to get an Xbox One or PlayStation 4?
