The lights are on
The week of Valve announcements is underway. Yesterday we reported on and asked you how you feel about the SteamOS news. We're confident that a hardware reveal is coming either tomorrow or later this week. We are curious about how much you would be willing to pay to put a preconfigured or home-built SteamBox in your living room.
Let's recap the relevant details. SteamOS is built on Linux, and therefore will play those titles in the Steam library that are compatible with that platform. It will also stream titles over a home network from a PC or Mac running Steam.
You can dual boot your existing hardware, but for the sake of argument, let's assume that the Steambox in question is designed and optimized for use with SteamOS. Do you already own a gaming machine (PC or Mac)? Would you purchase a SteamBox for your living room? If so, how much would you spend?

I'd pay anywhere from Apple Tv to Playstation 4 prices, depending on the configuration. I'm already an owner of a maxed out high-end PC, so the biggest things for me would be family share + streaming. Might end up hooking up the SteamBox to a projector =D
I would pay around $600 to build my own, though I'm expecting as low as $350 to as high as $600 for the official Steam Box.
I wouldn't, since the OS is free, I'd just add it my pc.
4 - 450. If it was modular and upgradeable prob 5-600.
I already own a gaming PC but it's getting very outdated. I wouldn't spend over $400 on a Steam console because I would rather just save up money and build a gaming PC. I'd definitely consider a Steam console if it was between $200-$300.
As long as the OS is free and the stream capabilities over LAN are up to snuff I won't buy one. I can just build something to run the OS, or install it as a secondary OS on my girlfriend's PC so we can stream from mine.
$400-$500, like the other consoles. Much more than that and I'd just go ahead and build a PC.
I am not sure if I would get the Steambox, because I already have a gaming PC. But I would like to download the SteamOS.
