The lights are on
We've heard from some readers that there are some issues with Grand Theft Auto V's garages. Apparently they have the occasional tendency to eat cars that players have upgraded. Rockstar has heard your laments and has born witness to the gnashing of your teeth.
The error typically presents after upgrading a car and then completing a mission. The company has acknowledged the glitch on its support site, but as of now has no workaround or fix to recover the missing vehicles.
Furthermore, Rockstar suggests that the problem may emerge after driving another character's personal vehicle (each of the three has them). A fix is currently being explored.
Additionally, it's important to recognize that safe house garages aren't magical. If you save a car in one, it won't likely show up in another.
You can subscribe to the support thread for information as it develops by signing into Rockstar's website with your Social Club ID.
Our TakeWith a game as big as Grand Theft Auto V, there were bound to be some glitches. Just ask the citizens of Fallout 3's Megaton how that stuff goes.
I hope this gets patched up quickly for those playing, but until then, be careful. Don't drive personal vehicles for other characters if you don't have to. It would be a shame if your sweet, tricked out ride disappeared.

This is what I get for switching away from Trevor! ha ha.
Not had a garage eat a car, I've had the game decide that I was better of without upgrades on a car though. Simply not going to upgrade any more cars.
"Don't drive personal vehicles for other characters if you don't have to." It's not always cool that you have to. I love pulling up to start a mission in a super car only to have my personal vehicle parked by the curb when I turn around. Thankfully, the only thing I have upgraded so far has been a dirt bike... and it was one I stole. Thanks for the heads up about this!
At least the cops don't keep chasing you forever like they did in past GTA games. Unless you hoofed it to a remote high place, they chased you for a good 15 mins. !!
This happened to me twice. Both times with tricked out rides. Best bet...wait until patch before upgrading vehicles. We gotta give Rockstar time to recognize problems and fix them. Have patience. For such a huge game, there are very few glitches. These guys are working their tails off to bring us the best game ever conceived, not to forget the online portion next week. BTW...there WILL be problems for the first week or so for GTAO. Connection issues will be present, disappearing cars, social club problems. Just hang in there, and give these guys some time to tune the game up. When GTA 5 and GTAO are firing on all cylinders, we will be in for quite a ride. Have patience please. And be glad the game wasn't pushed back again.
Import and? Haha I believe you mean important.
Realistically, the cars have always seemed to have glitches in some ways- from floating to disappearing...
This happened to me only once with a slow car I tricked out for Franklin. I stole a better car after a few missions and was going to put that car in the one I lost place, but oddly it returned. I didn't care for it anymore so I wreaked it in a police chase. =^.^=
I had a lime green Corquette disappear on me, haven't seen another since. maybe I can buy one online but this is gta i'm not buying a car.
I've had a glitch where cop cars turned into taxis when I was wanted, so i was getting rammed by taxis. The car eating garage also regularly happens to me, and I haven't even upgraded cars, just steal really nice ones.
