The lights are on
Ascend: Hand of Kul has been in beta for most of this year, but everyone else is going to get their hands on it this week. The free-to-play title from Signal Studios arrives on Xbox Live on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
The title, which was previously called Ascend: New Gods, is an online action-RPG. While this is a free-to-play game, according to Signal Studios, there is no premium currency. Instead, the "souls" that are earned in-game can also be purchased with real money. Nothing is walled off from those that choose not to pay, with cash greasing the wheels rather than unlocking a gate.
You can try it out for yourself later this week.

Our TakeSignal Studios has a strong track record with both Toy Soldiers and the 80s-inspired Toy Soldiers: Cold War. There hasn't been a lot of news on Ascend: Hand of Kul during its development and beta, but I'm hopeful that the amount of time spent polishing the title pays off when it arrives on Wednesday.
can't complain if its free, be downloading it in two days then
I've played the beta from day one and I had a lot of fun with it. It has a nice mix of combat and exploration with a solid story woven throughout. There is a pvp element that borrows from Dark Souls and a really cool leaderboard. I didn't spend any real money because I wanted to see how far you could realistically advance. It is harder, (but possible) you just have to grind to earn better weapons and armor.
Comes out exactly a month before Batman: Arkham Origins. this and Diablo 3 should keep me busy till then.
One of the most anticipated games in Q4, so it should be interesting to see how well it sells.
I completely forgot about this game (I think because they changed it from New Gods to Hand of Kul). Might look into it when it comes out.
I've been on the Beta - the game is sort of a slog. It has than dense impossible to understand lore (i.e. Halo, Infinity Blade) and the characters you control are super slow and sluggish.
There are some neat ideas, and I love Signal Studio's 2 Toy Soldier games, but this game feels about 3 years too late. But hey, it's free!
I actually cannot wait to try this game out.
Really great that there's no premium currency this game seems cool.
Sounds sweet actually.
I got into the beta. they just gave me the beta key at a bad time I have been playing diablo 3 and gta so I haven't played much.
