The lights are on
Nintendo composer Hirokazu Tanaka recently released a pair of tracks remixing classic Nintendo themes from Super Mario Land and Metroid, dedicating them to the late Hiroshi Yamauchi.
Tanaka's resume of Nintendo music includes work on games like Super Mario Land, Earthbound, and Dr. Mario, among many others. You can head here to listen to his Metroid remix, and here for his Super Mario Land remix.
Yamauchi passed away late last week at the age of 85. He is the man who turned Nintendo into the video game company it is today. He also had the incredible foresight to hire Shigeru Miyamoto.

the Metroid one was good, but I thought the Mario one was beautiful, listened to it about ten times so far.
Ohhhh...man.... Rest in peace, Yamauchi. You will be missed by many.
that mario remix...damn... *wipes tears*
It warms my heart to see Nintendo paying their respects to Mr. Yamauchi through their art. I hope we get more like this.
both of these songs were amazing
Oh, wow. Very beautiful.
It's kind of funny to imagine Yamauchi listening to this type of music.
Beautiful. RIP Yamauchi.
Super Mario Land was the first video game I ever played. The credits theme triggers so many feelings in me--joy, melancholy, triumph--that it's pretty hard to keep it together here. You will be deeply missed, Mr. Yamauchi, and thank you.
So excited to listen to these :3
Thank you for showing your honor and respect for Hiroshi Yamauchi through music. ^_^
These games bring up so many memories and the music I have always loved, most of all I am so thankful that Yamauchi had the foresight to hire Shigeru Miyamoto. Yamauchi we all love your work!
May you RIP. Thanks for the great music.
I think the Metroid one is good, but the Mario remix is not even meh. The original track for the Mario ending is more powerful on its own than is this remix. I'm surprised, since he wrote the original tracks for Super Mario Land, and also other great scores such as Tetris.
Great remixes. Yamauchi was a great man. May he rest in peace. www.gameinformer.com/.../an-epic-story-my-tribute-to-hiroshi-yamauchi.aspx
Wonderfully done. The songs capture the essence of the mood and the legacy.
I love it!
I don't think it was "foresight" to hire Miyamoto. If I'm remembering correctly, he was friends with Miyamoto's father.
