The lights are on
At 1 PM Eastern on Monday, September 23, 2013, we're going to get our first look at what Gabe Newell teased earlier this week at LinuxCon. Based on the image, it looks like the long-anticipated SteamBox could finally be coming.
"Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads," the website states. "This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam."
We'll be checking in on this on Monday when what is likely only the first piece of this news is revealed. (Update: Valve has issued a release stated that there will be three separate announcements next week, the first of which will be on Monday.)
Our TakeWith its library and publisher partnerships, Valve is positioned to give Sony and Microsoft a run for their money in the living room. If the device is priced appropriately, easy to use, and marketed in such a way that parents and more casual gamers can feel comfortable, the landscape could shift dramatically.
Oh, and there are three buttons on that controller image, so...

Love to see Valve integrate a Steam Box type console. I've already got dozens of steam games, steam has the best pricing and mod support so they've definitely got my vote in the "console wars." If they can make it where I can easily load up my steam library on a box that I can stick in my entertainment center, and transfer saves painlessly/cloud based to my PC, oh man. A lot depends on the pricing, though.
And yeah, maybe we'll actually see a announcement for HL3 or L4D3. Is it wrong to say I'd be more excited for another Left 4 Dead?
Hype train! :) Either way, I'm excited to see what they announce. I tried out Steam Big Picture about a month ago and wow, was I impressed. Would love to see what they could announce for a "Steambox."
I give it less than 6 months before it's forgotten.
I would totally be down for a Steambox. I'm excited to hear what announcements are coming down next week.

Don't get your hopes up yet. Newell's probably trolling us again.
Lot of people are saying that when you say Steam Box exclusive , do you include PC in it . The answer is yes , SteamBox is basically a PC with price of console . It will run on Linux , the main purpose of steam box is to introduce console gamers with PC and move gaming industry to Linux . If Half Life 3 Steam Box exclusive then you'll need linux OS to play it OR they will release windows version too . I'll be more than happy to get rid of Windows and M$ .
Do it Gabe .
I just hope exclusives arent as restrictive. I wanna play sonys great exclusives just as much as all the good stuff coming out on pc. Ally everyone
I can't wait. It's going to be a deal with Google to put Steam on Android devices. "Expanding the universe" and "in the living room" could mean mobile, not a console. to I guess many mobile devices have HDMI outputs, so there you go!
I'm interested in the news in store for Monday.
This will be interesting but i don't see how its going to give Sony a problem. Unless its priced at 200 dollars and then even at that what all does it offer.
god that controller better have nothing to do with it lmao
And the internet cats are pleased.
three separate announcements = half-life 3 confirmed
News from Valve, 3 updates, Second episode of Steam Big Picture = Half-life 2 EP 3 :D
