The lights are on
After crushing the launch day sales record on Tuesday, Grand Theft Auto V has earned another significant milestone for publisher Take-Two. The title has crested $1 billion in worldwide retail sales in just three days.
This news is surely a relief to CEO Strauss Zelnick, whose company's success this year and beyond hinges on powerful sales of Grand Theft Auto V. "Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," Zelnick says. "We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V."
Our TakeGrand Theft Auto has been keeping Take-Two afloat during the down times, as the series has an extremely long tail (the volume of sales over time following release). Not only does a new release spike revenues, but it also incentivizes gamers to investigate the back catalog (sometimes spurring purchases of already owned games on new platforms). GTA V will be even more significant should the title see staggered releases on PC and next-generation platforms (as I suspect it will). At this point, Call of Duty is going to have a nearly impossible time beating GTA's sales this year, ending a four-year streak.

So how many copies is that? Like 18 million or something? That doesn't seem right. Then again, I'm terrible at math.
Holy hell that's crazy awesome!!
I am having the time of my life with GTA V!! It's been a long time since I've played a good game!! But wow a billion dollars in three days!! Just... Wow.
I'm lovin my copy! Plus I have the weekend off!!!! Mini vacation in Los Santos.
GTA V just killed CoD. I don't think that anyone who hasn't pre-ordered Ghosts will buy it on a whim this year. I won't be diving into GTA V, but I've been nothing but impressed with its technology. Guess it's justified as good as it looks.
CALL OF DUTY CAN SUCK IT!!!!!!
Remember when we used to talk about games and not money
Apparently nobody at GI thought it worth noting that this is the fastest any entertainment product has ever made a billion. That's kinda significant, guys.
GTA has the oooooh shiny syndrome where COD is the same maps over and over. When a player can go explore and entertain themselves with riding over mountain top its will win. Rockstar also thought forward and is releasing the online later where people play the game and then they can play the game with friends as almost a new game. GENIOUS!!!
Wish I was on the receiving end of this payout
I've got a huge backlog to finish before I buy any new games. Some of that backlog are new games. I played gta 4 for about an hour before I realized I just couldn't get into the scope of it. I'm going to have to get this at some point. Seems too good an experience to miss out on if you call yourself a gamer.
This raises the bar almost impossibly high for AAA games. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Congrats to Rockstar. I'm not a fan of GTA, but GTA V looks like a very good game.
What is so funny, is the fact that they are taking a swing at movies and how much they have grossed at the global box office.
First it was the fact that it grossed more than Man of Steel in just 1 day, now its the fact that is has grossed more than the $840 billion of Despicable Me 2, and that Grand Theft Auto V has is creeping up the $1.2 billion gross of Iron Man 3.
Either way you look at it, this total gross is absolutely mind-blowing.
this game is absolutely incredible best game i've ever played hands down.imo
not a shock everyone and there mom ws at my midnight release lol
