The lights are on
After crushing the launch day sales record on Tuesday, Grand Theft Auto V has earned another significant milestone for publisher Take-Two. The title has crested $1 billion in worldwide retail sales in just three days.
This news is surely a relief to CEO Strauss Zelnick, whose company's success this year and beyond hinges on powerful sales of Grand Theft Auto V. "Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," Zelnick says. "We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V."
Our TakeGrand Theft Auto has been keeping Take-Two afloat during the down times, as the series has an extremely long tail (the volume of sales over time following release). Not only does a new release spike revenues, but it also incentivizes gamers to investigate the back catalog (sometimes spurring purchases of already owned games on new platforms). GTA V will be even more significant should the title see staggered releases on PC and next-generation platforms (as I suspect it will). At this point, Call of Duty is going to have a nearly impossible time beating GTA's sales this year, ending a four-year streak.

Glad to hear it, can't wait to get it myself!
It was well deserved. Rockstar has done it again. It's an amazing and addicting game. They've outdone themselves this time, but it's much appreciated. Hope they keep up the excellent work. CONGRATS!
Wow, that is amazing!
Congratulations Rockstar ! About that leaked date for PC version (November 22th) it has huge chances to be true because of Watch Dogs trolling few days ago. Watch Dogs relase date is 21.11 in EU. - 22.11 is in UK. If this info is true than Ubisoft is gonna learn, big time.
Insane... but awesome.
Try doing that box office.
Proof of the great video game drought of '08-'13. Ps4, save us.
Great news! GTA deserves it. I have been a fan since GTA2. It's also great to hear that it'll possibly end Call Of Duty's 4 year streak. Finally!! Thank you GTA! Great game and great job!
I don't play GTA myself I still congratulate on Take-Two on their success and applaud Rockstar!
Amazing and truly deserved. They worked on this game for 5 years and it's really nice to see that effort and dedication rewarded as occasionally it isn't in this industry.
Not meaning to bash CoD here but those games cost a fraction of the time, effort and money that games like GTA V cost to make. That's why I'm so happy to hear this news.
it will sell more during the holidays and after online launches.
Well deserved. I love this game. Too much fun to be had in it.
GTA V is a amazing game and it absolutely deserves this.
Does this mean they've made enough money to warrant PC and Next-Gen versions?? Please?
