The lights are on
At 1 PM Eastern on Monday, September 23, 2013, we're going to get our first look at what Gabe Newell teased earlier this week at LinuxCon. Based on the image, it looks like the long-anticipated SteamBox could finally be coming.
"Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads," the website states. "This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam."
We'll be checking in on this on Monday when what is likely only the first piece of this news is revealed. (Update: Valve has issued a release stated that there will be three separate announcements next week, the first of which will be on Monday.)
Our TakeWith its library and publisher partnerships, Valve is positioned to give Sony and Microsoft a run for their money in the living room. If the device is priced appropriately, easy to use, and marketed in such a way that parents and more casual gamers can feel comfortable, the landscape could shift dramatically.
Oh, and there are three buttons on that controller image, so...

No way that's a functional controller. So what does it mean??
Cool make game cardboard interesting.
One of which will be Half-Life 3!??!?!?!?
As a Steam user, I am not interested in anything Valve has to offer outside of deals. The software they develop is average at best and frustratingly finicky at worst. I use Steam only to purchase games for cheap, just like Origin. Whoever has the cheapest deal gets my money. I want nothing else from the drunk programmers at Valve.
What can this mean?!
I wonder if at this point valve intentionally puts things out there to get people to freak out about the smallest of hints that Half life 3 is a thing. If so I applaud them for being the greatest trolls ever, if not then I still applaud them for having such self restraint.
SteamBox I think will shift a lot of things. Maybe more love for PC games releasing same day as consoles (wouldn't that be nice?).
Half-Life 3...exclusive to the Steam Box
We'd like to announce something HUGE...
Three buttons on the controller. Three whiskers on the cat.
It can only mean one thing.
Portal 2.5 is confirmed!
Half Life 2: Episode 3, Half Life 3, and Half Life 4
So wow valve is finally entering the videogame industry as a console maker.
I never heard of steam until coming to GI a few years back. While this sounds great, I really don't see it competing with PS4 or One head to head. Just my 2 cents!
