The lights are on
After crushing the launch day sales record on Tuesday, Grand Theft Auto V has earned another significant milestone for publisher Take-Two. The title has crested $1 billion in worldwide retail sales in just three days.
This news is surely a relief to CEO Strauss Zelnick, whose company's success this year and beyond hinges on powerful sales of Grand Theft Auto V. "Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," Zelnick says. "We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V."
Our TakeGrand Theft Auto has been keeping Take-Two afloat during the down times, as the series has an extremely long tail (the volume of sales over time following release). Not only does a new release spike revenues, but it also incentivizes gamers to investigate the back catalog (sometimes spurring purchases of already owned games on new platforms). GTA V will be even more significant should the title see staggered releases on PC and next-generation platforms (as I suspect it will). At this point, Call of Duty is going to have a nearly impossible time beating GTA's sales this year, ending a four-year streak.

I don't see Rockstar losing these two records any time soon. Congrats to you Rockstar!!!
It deserves it, by far the best GTA game and something that's let my body defy the laws of rest and go on 1 hour of sleep a night for the past 4 days.
Is it still not available in Japan or Brazil? If so, then that number is extraordinary.
Wow, that's insane.
I have not been a big fan of GTA since 3. I have tried all of them but lost interest very quickly. I am a big fan of Saints Row and have been getting my open world fix that way. I say this to give credibility to my absolute love for GTA5. As far as I am concerned this game just set a new bar for how it should be done.
I have piloted an airship, climbed a mountain, towed and repoed vehicles. I have maid it rain at the club, gotten a lap dance...oh wait two girls at a time, and taken the girl home for a happy ending. I have made stock investments, surfed the web, and smoked while watching tv in my aunties house. I have landed the airship on the beach, road a roller coaster, and gotten a bj in my stolen sports car in the alley. I have run a semi into the military base and been chased by helicopters and tanks.
I have been gaming since the Atari, I was old enough to remember getting my NES. In my personal opinion GTA5 is unmatched. It is my new greatest game of all time.
