The lights are on
Today at Tokyo Game Show, I met Yasumi Matsuno, one of the minds behinds Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Tactics Ogre. Matsuno revealed that he's joining forces with American company Playdek, who brought board and hobby games like Penny Arcade The Game: Good vs. Evil and Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer to mobile devices.
Matsuno's next venture is entitled, "Unsung Story." The new IP for mobile devices will be more than just a one-game show. His first game in the world he's created is Unsong Story: Tale of the Guardians, a strategy game in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. Matsuno shared his excitement to be working on a project for smartphones because they're handy and flexible. He said that while he's taking plenty of cues from his previous works, he's also designing a new user interface to fit the mobile space.
Unsung Story is set in a medieval fantasy world of Rasfalia. Small kingdoms are emerging throughout the world, and you pick the kingdom you want to represent. Knights, wizards, and archers populate your tactical fields in a fight against monsters to help find out the meaning behind a half-century of war.
Before Matsuno delivers his strategy/RPG, however, a prequel card game is in the works in the same world, and will be co-designed by French board game designer Christophe Boelinger in 2014.
What do you think of the Matsuno news?

AWESOME! that bout sums it up.
Loved Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story and FF Tactics. They were some of my favorite games in elementary and I still enjoy them today. I'm excited to see how this game turns out.
This is awesome news to hear!
Assuming it does well on phones I hope to see a console release some time down the road.
Worthless to me, I don't mobile game.
Useless piece of *** if its mobile only. Notify about this game next time IF it gets a proper console release
Crappy new since its on mobile.
This aught to be good. Even if it is a mobile game.
Drop me a line when they port it to a relevant gaming platform in America, like ANYTHING else. Bonus points for Steam
not interested. Mobile. Red flag
Was excited, then... mobile D=
Exciting news! FF Tactics is one of my all time favorites.
Why do people seem intent on taking a huge dump on their reputations of great games by pushing everything onto terrible mobile devices these days? ~_~
PSP is a stretch but still acceptable. Why can't we just have console/PC releases of these games for the true fans of the genres/series?
I love the idea, just wish it wasn't for mobile :/ 3DS or Vita would be nice.
I am massively disappointed. This will likely be the first Matsuno game that I don't absolutely obsess over.
FF Tactics was one of the best games I've ever played...WTF, mobile!? Candy Crush on mobile, yeah makes sense, a game like FF Tactics??? Really? I'm pissed.
Well, at least it is not a genre that requires precision controls, so I'll be fine playing it on a phone. I would still like to see versions of games like these coming out for handhelds, especially considering both the 3DS and Vita have online marketplaces (and the Vita has a dedicated section for mobile games), but it is not a big deal.
