The lights are on
If you have made a visit to the Internet in the past 24 hours, you may have noticed that there are a few people who have Grand Theft Auto V early. Rockstar Games is looking into how that happened.
In a statement offered to GamesIndustry.biz, Rockstar said, "We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring." Online retailers like Amazon have reportedly been shipping copies of the game early to pre-order customers.
Grand Theft Auto V officially releases on Tuesday, September 17. Head here for the latest trailer for the game.
Our TakeThe big downside of early copies leaking is the prevalence of spoilers on the Internet. Rockstar wants everyone to experience Grand Theft Auto V in the same way, without prior knowledge of the story etc., so its insistence on dealing with leaks is admirable. After the previous leak from Sony, I wonder if future Rockstar Games releases will be held to stricter standards.

if people are paying for it, then there isint a huge problem. People are so freaking excited for this game that they'll do anything to get a copy. This stuff happens... a kid was killed for his shoes when the new Jordan's came out the other year.
It's easy to get early copies when working retail. I know the store I work at recieved a shipper display box over a week ago loaded with 50+ copies of GTA V. Just sitting in the back. Could have grabbed me a copy. But I'm patient enough to wait til tuesday morning to get it.
I've been watching tons of streams of this game over the past two days. I won't spoil a thing, but my god gentlemen, it looks spectacular. The characters' abilities (particularly Franklin's) look like too much fun to handle.
not surprised because pre-orders have a thing for arriving early...
Has anyone else got their order of GTA V cancelled by Wal Mart?
Better than that headline about CoD Modern Warfare 3 copies getting hijacked from that delivery truck back in 2011, I think.
I've seen the rapper Tyler, The Creator constantly posting about playing GTAV on Twitter. Still wondering how he got it.
I've seen plenty of random GTA V game play now but I've managed to stay away from the story missions. And I must say its just making me want to play even more. The game looks crazy good and seems to run pretty smooth for not having the day one patch yet. So cant wait to play!!! :)))))
My friend just sent me a pic of him in a helicopter.. And it' shows the world at night all lit up.. Looks awesome..
I don't think there's anything more they can do really. To be honest I think Rockstar is proud of doing such a great job of keeping the game under wraps. Usually high profile games like this get leaked way before release. The weekend before is very normal. There's always a retailer here and there that will release it early, and who might open their own copy a bit early. R kept it secret for as long as they could ( minus sony leaking the audio ) they should be happy. Now its in the hands of retailers.
I got a copy yesterday from a bum on the street. I can only assume he got it legitimately.
In other news, the game sucks. I guess I've had my fill of banging hookers.
Gotta figure if you worked around these games and pre-ordered and paid for it, and you are or have a cool manager that they would've let you take your copy home this weekend. I would if I were in that position. Just ring it in the register on Tuesday and don't log in when you play.
I honestly expect to have copies on my truck to deliver with a Tuesday date on them. I love to help a fellow gamer out when I can, but the companies are doing a pretty good job of making sure they are delivered on the due date. Unfortunately/Fortunately most stores get the games about 5 days before release so it's up to them to follow the street date schedule.
It's no biggie to me if people get the game early and start playing it, but they shouldn't blab spoilers on the internet. It's laaaaame.
