Zelda Producer Addresses The Chance Of A Majora's Mask Remake

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 14, 2013 at 09:16 AM

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has been an integral part of the Zelda franchise since Ocarina of Time. Aonuma was recently asked what the chances of seeing a remake Majora's Mask might be, and his response was ambiguous.

In an interview with IGN, Aonuma laughed, and asked that IGN tell readers he laughed. When pressed, Aonuma offered no clarification. "It’s really up to them. If they want to interpret my laughter as, ‘yeah, we’re making it’ or ‘no, we’re not,’ I guess that’s really up to them,” Aonuma said.

Since his work on Ocarina of Time, Aonuma went on to direct Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but Majora's Mask was the first game that he was officially credited as director.

Our Take
Aonuma's response is pretty much perfect considering the mysterious nature and themes of Majora's Mask. Initially, when I first began playing Majora's Mask back in 2000, I didn't like the repeating day mechanic, but as I played more, and especially as I have been able to reflect on the game over the years, I have grown to love the game. I would love to see an update to the game, especially on something like the 3DS. I choose to to interpret Aonuma's laughter as an indication that a remake is happening, mostly because I like the idea of revisiting the game so much.
