The lights are on
One of the year's most critically praised indie games is selling well. In a blog post on developer The Fullbright Company's website, co-founder Steve Gaynor wrote, "We’re happy to announce that between Steam and our own website Gone Home has sold more than 50,000 copies since launch. We’re now almost a month out since launching on August 15, and we hope people will find it encouraging to know that, along with the positive critical response we are continually grateful for and humbled by, we are also doing alright as far as sales numbers go!"
That's great news, as Gone Home is definitely one of the really unique gaming experiences to release in 2013. For more, read Kim Wallace's review of the game. Even better is the tease Gaynor left of "more exciting news" – which hopefully means a new Fullbright project to be announced soon.
Our Take:The last few years have seen an explosion of independent game development and, as in the indie music and film movements, some of these new creators have been giving fans a clear alternative to the offerings of the mainstream industry. It's good to see that a game as resolutely uncommercial as Gone Home can post 50,000 in sales in only a month's time.

1. It's an experimental game and it was a passion of the developers, their intent was mostly artistic. That being said I think they hoped to at least recoup the cost of making the game. I'm sure they are very happy with its success.
2.If it doesn't sound appealing to you "Don't buy it; It wasn't made for you". Don't denigrate those of us who did, with your snide comments.
3. If you're a complete homophobe and afraid of any topic surrounding or about LGBT characters. Avoid this game. It wasn't made for you and I hope you enjoy the rock you live under.
I'm glad that the developers got that much in sales, but I'm not paying $20 for a game that can apparently be beaten in around an hour. I don't have a problem with the type of gameplay the game has, but I feel the price is too steep.
I'm glad it's done so well.
I'm glad to hear that they've done so well. Congratulations to them.
Worst game I've played this year.
