The lights are on
This morning, Activision and Gamestop (disclosure: GameStop is Game Informer's parent company) announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts is on track to be the most pre-ordered game of 2013. The latest installment of Infinity Ward's contribution to the franchise is due out on November 5, 2013.
Activision also announced a discount offer for Eminem's upcoming The Marshall Mathers LP 2, also arriving on November 5, 2013. Those that pre-order and purchase Call of Duty: Ghosts at GameStop will receive a code at pickup that makes available the new album (including an exclusive track) for $8.99.
Our TakeCall of Duty continues to be an enormous franchise, and I have no doubt that the the special offers related to next-generation upgrades are helping. I can imagine that there are people who have pre-ordered both the current-generation and next-generation versions and will trade in the former and obtain the latter for about $10. This counts as two pre-orders, and it will register as two sales when NPD time comes around.
Others are offering similar upgrade plans. Sony will allow digital PS3 title purchasers to spend $10 more to get the PS4 version. Other retailers are starting to initiate their own plans, too.

How can that be? Only a short while ago there were articles about how this was not getting per-ordered due to multi-platform. Did preorders really pick up speed??
Not surprised in the least, though one can't help but wonder how long COD can continue to be the sales juggernaut that it has been for the last few years. Each installment basically shatters the previous installment's record
I'm so excited to see the fish swim out of my way when I get too close.
Yes it's really most popular...
I woulda thought GTA5 would have this beat in pre orders
Looks alot of parents' wallets are going to throw down on this one. According to GameStop and my own experiences working there once for the Christmas season, over 75% of "CoD Customers" are children, whose parents come in and buy the game for them.
What a shocker.
That is actually kind of sad
Note they haven't said anything about all time. It seems to me that the COD hype is finally dying down and I'll be surprised if it surpasses the sales of previous iterations.
Looks like originality and hard work has payed off again for Treyarch and Infinity Ward
For good reason. The gameplay is solid and even though the core hasn't changed too much, great supporting systems have been added and improved upon over the MW series, which this seems to come off of. And the lag. The only reason why I truly do prefer CoD over Battlefield isn't because of the strangely high but not Halo high health or severely underpowered sniper rifles. It's that half my bullets pass right through people while seemingly only one takes me down. Add in the destructibility of BF3 to the CoD formula along with new guns, perks, killstreaks, gamemodes, and the cool new knee slide, and there's no wonder why I and many others have pre-ordered this.
STOP BUYING COD GAMES!! ITS THE WARZ OR CONSOLE GAMING
and these are the news that makes me lose faith in gaming today
Can't wait for new COD!!!
