Update: Irrational Games has issued a statement on the layoffs
In an effort to streamline our processes I am sad to confirm that we let go a total of 8 employees today. Any studio’s greatest asset is the group of people that make up the whole, and as such it was extremely hard to make this decision and there is never a good time for this to happen. As co-workers and friends, we wish them the very best.
The developer declined to provide additional information, including the number of staff members it currently employs.
According to reports, Irrational Games has laid off a number of employees today. The studio, which is wholly owned by 2K Games, is said to have let eight employees go.
According to a statement provided to Kotaku, there is no effect on the development of the anticipated Bioshock Infinite DLC, Burial at Sea. The first half of that content is expected later this year. We have reached out to 2K Games to find out how many staff Irrational current employs.
Our TakeLayoffs are never fun. With Bioshock Infinite's rapid descent down the NPD top 10 list (especially for as well-received by critics as it was) and the long delay of revenue tied to DLC, these cuts are unfortunate, but not entirely surprising.
Our thoughts are with those affected.

Sorry, but having played half of Bioshock Infinite, I'm not surprised. Not really an inventive game, you can't keep churning out the same product over and over.
Layoffs are never good to hear about and my best wishes go out to those who where affected.
This is what happens when you try to deliver a quality product and expenses get way too high due to time you spend. Developers who put out the very same thing every year makes profit while the ones with creativity has to face layoffs. Shame.
Reminds me of the guys who help out at where I work...after a project is done, they get paid and left to fend for themselves. Kind of sad at times, because I get along with these guys, and they're gone before I even get to know their names (much less have a few drinks with them).
How is it the Activision's studios like Infinity Ward, and Treyarch, get a free pass on layoffs?! It's not fair to he other companies!!
That's sad. I wish them the best.
prob just people that they didnt think where doing a good job or get on with management. Or some costs have popped up so they laying off people to lessen them
