The lights are on
In a brief Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Game Freak announced a new way to store Pokémon. Alongside Pokémon X and Y on October 12, a new Pokémon Bank will be released. The downloadable software will store 3,000 pocket monsters.
The Pokémon Bank will also be compatible with Black/White and Black/White 2 via a the Poké Transporter. Players can use the Bank to import their previous Pokémon into X and Y. The Bank will carry an as yet undisclosed annual fee.
Additionally, Nintendo confirmed that Pokémon-themed red and blue 3DS XL units will be available in North America on September 27. It does not seem to be a bundle with an early release of the game.
Pokémon X and Y will be available on October 12, 2013, with the original three starting Pokémon in tow (with mega evolutions, too). You can read our recent hands-on experiences from PAX 2013.
You can check out the full Pokémon X and Y Nintendo Direct below.
Our TakeNintendo addressed the reasons for a Pokémon Bank fee head on: ongoing maintenance and compatibility with future titles. Unfortunately, leaving the pricing a mystery so close to launch seems like an error. In the Nintendo Direct chat, people were noticeably upset that there is an annual charge for this program. Nintendo is allowing people to assume the worst, and would do well to get in front of this quickly by announcing the price.

a great feature, and WOOHOO to the limited edition! (hope they release the charizard and eevee editions too)
As long as it's no more than say 5.00 a year then I don't really see a problem with it. I personally wont be needing it seeing as though this will be my first Pokémon game in 10 years.
Question: Does this mean I could pick a starter, upload it to the storage, pick the second starter in a new game, do the same, and then get the third starter, then download them and have all 3 starters?
I dont think not announcing the price right now seemed like a problem. People get mad over the dumbest things. IT is a DLC program that will come out right after the launch. So this is indeed optional. Being angry over it just shows how foolish you can be with video games.
I'll have to pick this up at a late date, but I am still looking forward to it! Gonna get me TWO grass starters this time!!
The only thing about Pokemon Bank that worries me is that I might have to pay for a year of it just to transfer my Pokemon once. I'm sure it'll be a reasonable price, but I find it strange that Poke Transporter can't work independently for people like myself who don't see the need for 3,000 storage slots.
not a bad idea for those that follow it closely and want to keep their team
didnt they already say that the annual fee is $5?
This is a no brainer for me. An excellent idea!! Really hope the fee is not too much. anything more than £10 is a no-go
Why not release the special 3DS bundled with the game?
They decide to release the ugly as hell Y version of the Pokemon 3ds, but not the gorgeous gold X version.
What drunk, bitter, 12 year old makes these decisions?
Now that is an interesting idea, don't get me wrong, but I think I'll pass.
It's about 500 yen a year.
500 yen a year seems way too cheap but it saves a lot of money because it isn't easy transporting pokemon from one game to another unless you have two ds systems and 3000 pokemon is a lot to store i would assume it would come out to like $20 a year because the game itself costs $40 and its supposed to support future titles
I don't know why so many people are getting so angry at such an awesome feature. Pokémon Box will only be 500 yen per year, which is only about $5. Gamefreak has also said that there will be a free trial period for several months after Pokémon Box launches. The only reason that I can see as to why Gamfreak is charging for this feature is because if everything goes as planned, this feature will be around for a long time. In the Pokémon Direct, someone stated that this feature can be used so that one's grandchildren can access the Pokémon their granparents used. Personally, I believe that this is a great feature and am avidly awaiting it and Pokémon X and Y's release.
This service would be amazing if you kept up with all of your pokemon across all the consoles (which is really possible.) 3000 slots is allot of slots allowing for all your pokemon plus tons in the future. as long as it is reasonably priced i will be buying this. heck you know whats really cool? if you have an old ds and a new 3ds you can buy sapphire/ruby leafgreen/firered and all the ds game and have literally every pokemon to ever be created (Except event pokemon of course) if my cat hadnt ate the charger of my classic ds i would be doing that T.T
