The lights are on
Since its relaunch, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been experiencing login issues. To help make up for the inconvenience, Square Enix is offering a free week to players.
Last week, Square Enix put a temporary hold on digital download sales of the game to help alleviate server stress. Players are still experiencing issues, so Square Enix is offering seven days of additional free play time to players. In order to take advantage of the free time, players must register their game before Sept. 9. Additionally, the servers will be getting maintenance on the morning of Sept. 4, which will increase the number of available Worlds, reduce stress on the Duty Finder servers, and increase the number of concurrent logins allowed for each server.
For all the details, head to page two, or head to the official Final Fantasy XIV website.

Our TakeWhile it's an unfortunate problem for players, it's a good problem for Square Enix to have. Especially when you consider the problems surrounding the game's original launch. Hopefully, this will all get cleaned up soon.

I figured they would do this, it's good to hear they are though. What they should do is auto-kick AFK players until the problem is resolved.
This game looks so good too...once they fix everything I might break down and for once pay for a MMO.
It's all free for me, I got a refund on the game after several nights in a row of trying to login. Now I don't need to worry about playing or having to play to play after the first month. Maybe I will re-visit the game down the road if there is still player base.
that's awesome! This game has been through the ringer for sure...but this relaunch proves they truly saw this game's vision and wanted to make sure the end user saw how amazing it could be. I played it at launch before [1.0] and this one as well - the server issue is a big and crippling one, but the time I've spent in this game is unforgettable and that is what truly counts. Can't wait until it's fixed, but rest assured, I'll spend 15 minutes trying to get on a server everytime I play to make sure I get to spend some time on it!
That's the only rational thing to do in this case of course.
I've heard talk about extra time, it's good to get a confirmation and the exact amount. I'm glad. I've been having a lot of trouble logging in, so I'm a bit behind my friends. It's pretty frustrating, they're off hunting high level monsters and I'm stuck wandering around my lower level area.
I'd like to credit Square on the immense amount of time and money they must have sunk into this game, though. They weren't content to let it fade into obscurity, so they put a ton of resources into making it the game it should have been. It's definitely a lot of fun to play, right now. We'll see how it holds up in a month when I'm max level, and they ask me to start paying a sub.
The server woes have been pretty terrible, but man, once you get past them (and hopefully tonight's maintenance will fix the bulk of the issues)the game really is fantastic.
Really enjoyed the little bit of time I got to spend with this game last weekend. Excited to drop even more of my free time into it with these fixes!
This is good news, people. It happens for every popular MMO. Give it a week for player activity to stabilize and then you'll be too busy gaming to remember why you were upset in the first place.
