Terraria & Edge Of Space Collide In Indie Crossover

by Matthew Kato on Aug 29, 2013 at 03:37 AM

You've heard about crossovers in fighting games, now it's time for one in the indie game sandbox genre, if there is such a thing. Terraria and Edge of Space are coming together, and you'll be able to play a sample of it at this weekend's PAX Prime convention.

The Skeletron boss in Terraria will be reborn as Omegatron in 2D open-world/mining/action/laser space shark game Edge of Space.

"If you're a fan of my game," said Terraria creator Andrew Spinks, "then there is a good chance you're really going to love the insane monsters, wild weapons, and flexible creation content of Edge of Space. They are a great group of passionate developers and I am glad to get to know them, and it could turn out to be one of the best sci-fi games in the genre."

"We are really excited to have this crossover content and we have some cool stuff planned," said Jake Crane, lead designer and founder of HandyMan Studios. "Terraria has been a great inspiration for those developers creating massive, open worlds that put players in control of their destiny."

Terraria is out now on various platforms, and Edge of Space is currently in its soft launch beta period (the game is on PC and Mac). You can get Steam Early Access to the game for $11.99 in advance of its launch price of $14.99. The game has no fixed release date, but it's certainly playable and is being improved on an ongoing basis by developer HandyMan Studios.

Our Take:
This is a great idea that, frankly, I didn't think much about until I saw this. I haven't played either game, but it sounds like the two will make comfortable bedfellows.
