Sources: EA To Lay Off More Staff On Eve Of PAX 2013

by Mike Futter on Aug 29, 2013 at 09:21 AM

During its end of fiscal year 2013 financial call, EA's financial accounting for restructuring hinted at more layoffs to come. Sources tell Game Informer that it will happen today.

The restructuring is said to be sweeping, with significant layoffs today across divisions in the United States and Europe. A source pegs the number at approximately 300 employees affected.  This news follows the departure of CEO John Riccitiello, the closure of the EA Partners division that provided publishing services by contract, the shuttering of PopCap Vancouver, and significant changes in the publisher's mobile and social strategy.

We have reached out to EA for comment on the layoffs.

Our Take
More layoffs at EA aren't a surprise, but the timing is terrible. As the gaming world gears up for news and the general excitement of PAX, our thoughts turn to the possibly 300 people that find themselves out of work.
