GameStick Android Console Shipping in September
The GameStick, a Kickstarter-funded Android console similar to the Ouya, will hit retail in September.
The GameStick raised over $647,658 on Kickstarter (well over its original goal of $100,00). Its big selling point is its price ($79) and its size, which makes even the diminutive Ouya look like a beast. It's basically the size of a thumb drive, and plugs into your TV via HDMI. It also comes with a modern-yet-retro controller, which our editor Ben Reeves felt was a bit uncomfortable in this hands-on preview. Word is now that the console will be shipping on September 30, which is confirmed by pre-order pages on retail sites. It will likely be shipped to Kickstarter backers prior to going to retail.
It will be interesting to see how it fares.

Our Take:
The GameStick is interesting; it's tiny size makes it a home TV console that's truly portable (especially because it doesn't require any cables or hook-ups). Also, at $79, it's almost an impulse buy (it's very similar to Google's Chromecast TV peripheral in both design and price). However, as we've seen with Ouya, it turns out that the home console business isn't an easy. Still, given that the company's original Kickstarter goal was only $100,000, I imagine that GameStick has more realistic goals and therefore a more reachable definition of success.
