Microsoft Talks Drivatars And The Cloud In New Video

by Mike Futter on Aug 27, 2013 at 10:58 AM

Microsoft has had a hard time drawing the line between its language about the cloud and examples of how it will improve gaming. The last time we spoke about the important tentpole of the Xbox One platform, it was Respawn Entertainment doing the explaining. Now, Microsoft is trying to put shape to the concept.

In the video below, you'll see Microsoft social marketing manager Graeme Boyd and Turn 10 Studios creative director Dan Greenawalt talk about how Forza Motorsport 5 benefits from "the infinite power of the cloud." Forza is a launch title for the Xbox One, though the console has yet to receive a release date.

Our Take
Microsoft needs more examples of how the cloud will be used in the Xbox One launch window. The company keeps coming back to Forza 5's drivatars, but we need some more stories about how the concept is woven into different genres.

Right now, the best and most detailed example comes from Respawn and how that studio is integrating the cloud with Titanfall. Microsoft needs to start providing greater detail, or else "the cloud" is going to be buried in the buzzword graveyard.
