Microsoft Giving Day One Bonuses For Three Exclusive Xbox One Games

by Mike Futter on Aug 27, 2013 at 04:38 AM

Microsoft has announced that three of its platform exclusives coming alongside the Xbox One launch will be getting extra content in the first wave. If you're considering Ryse: Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3, or Forza 5, this information is for you.

Forza Motorsport 5 is getting a "Day One Car Pack." It includes the 2010 Audi TT RS Coupe, the 2013 Ford Focus ST, and the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. Each comes with a Xbox One Day One themed livery, which you can see in the gallery below.

Dead Rising 3 comes with a couple of throwback costumes. The Frank West outfit comes with his zombie slugger and custom skills. It also boosts melee damage and survivor health. The Chuck Greene outfit comes with the paddle saw and perk boosts for vehicle and weapon durability.

Finally, Ryse: Son of Rome gets the Legionnaire's Trust sword and the Ruins co-op map. The Ruins map can be played by those that don't have it if invited by a Day One user.

These benefits also translate to digital purchases made during the first two week's of the Xbox One life cycle.

Our Take
As important as hardware sales are, the early attach rate is just as critical. These incentives aim to help Microsoft boost that critical stat that they can then take back to publishers as evidence of the platform's strength.

I expect that those on the fence about Forza or Dead Rising might be nudged toward an earlier purchase. A sword and a map for Ryse: Son of Rome doesn't seem terribly compelling, though.
