Plants Vs. Zombies Moving From Gardens To Toy Boxes

by Jeff Cork on Aug 22, 2013 at 04:48 AM

PopCap and K'nex have announced a partnership that will let you create your own Plants Vs. Zombies adventures. Better still, you won't have to pad around a dirty garden to do so.

The companies aren't ready to show off exactly what kinds of sets players will be able to build, but president of K'nex brands Michael Araten is providing a few tantalizing clues.

"Plants vs. Zombies Building Sets from K'nex will bring these exciting characters to life in a new way,” said Michael Araten, president of K'nex Brands. “Children of all ages will have the opportunity to build the Plants vs. Zombies neighborhood they love right in their own homes. Just like in the game, the builder will meet, greet, and defeat legions of fun-dead zombies with a powerful army of plants! I can’t wait to see how fans will take their digital game skills and use them in the real world!”

All right then. So players will be building their own neighborhoods that they will be able to protect from the zombies with plant figures. Don't be surprised to see rubber-band-powered catapults and spring-activated launchers.

This isn't the first gaming crossover that K'nex has created, either. K'nex released a line of Mario Kart-themed toys back in 2001.

Our Take
Walk around our office and you'll begin to understand that toys are a very important part of our lives. Plants Vs. Zombies is a huge get for K'nex, and it'll be interesting to see what they do with it. The concept doesn't seem as easy to translate into the toy space as Mario Kart is, but I'll be happy if they only end up releasing cool figures.
