Beyond: Two Souls Features Co-op, Touchscreen Mode
Quantic Dream CEO David Cage announced at Gamescom that Beyond: Two Souls allows players to pass off control of Aiden to a friend.
Beyond: Two Souls focuses on the relationship between Jodi Holmes and her ethereal partner Aiden, allowing players to switch between the two characters on the fly. However, Cage announced during a Gamescom presentation that players can also allow a friend to take control of Aiden, as reported by IGN. Co-op teams won't actually be playing simultaneously; players still switch between characters to solve puzzles and dispatch enemies, it's just that game will automatically switch to a second controller when the other character is selected.
Cage also announced that Beyond: Two Souls can be played via an iOS or Android device through an app called Beyond: Touch. The app simplifies gameplay for the touchscreen by allowing players to trace movement paths for characters and perform in-game actions through swipe gestures. The app can also be used in co-op play.
We'll have more on Beyond: Two Souls from Gamescom later this week.

Our Take
While it's not the kind of dedicated
co-op mode players have come to expect from games, I think this is a smart move
for Quantic Dream. Beyond: Two Souls is the kind of game that could appeal to a
larger audience of players who are more interested in the story that Cage is
crafting than complex gameplay. Allowing them to play alongside a friend or
with a simplified control scheme makes getting in on the action an easier
proposition.
