The lights are on
Via a bunch of Twitter chatter in the last couple of weeks, I checked out SaltyBet.com to see what the hubbub was all about. What I found was really confusing at first, and it's certainly weird as hell, but several of us can't stop watching for some reason.
What is it? Well, it's a MUGEN fighter that randomly selects from a huge pool of user-created characters and actual fighting characters, then has AI control them in a fight. Upon signing up for a free account at the site, you're granted $400 in SaltyBucks to put towards your favorite combatants.
It's an odd community with a vocal (and insane) Twitch chat that always runs alongside it, but it's strangely fascinating. Upon doing a little digging, I found this NeoGAF thread that explains a bunch of its quirks. Join the site if you want to watch Ronald McDonald fight the Flash, Fat Albert take on Sabretooth, or Rayman fight a killer whale. It's great.

Barry Burton versus an anthropomorphic sandwich?
Those matches were weird....
Watching people play games is one thing, but betting on a computer fighting itself?....
God I love SaltyBet, I haven't bet in a while, but watching is always hilarious.
Never thought it would get this big...
Why the hell does the chat keep talking about Mexicans?
I remember staying up til 3 just watching all this.
