The lights are on
Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison is underlining the company's support of the new Kinect with Xbox One. According to an interview with CVG, Harrison dashes the hopes of fans holding out for a cheaper, Kinect-free Xbox One bundle.
When asked if the Xbox One will always come with a Kinect, Harrison responds, "Correct. Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems. An Xbox One has chips, it has memory, it has Blu-ray, it has Kinect, it has a controller. These are all part of the platform ecosystem."
Check out the full interview on a variety of topics including Microsoft's reversal of several Xbox One policies, the possibility of a pack-in game in North America, and the lack of a firm Xbox One release date.
Our Take:This seems like a very definitive choice that Microsoft is making, especially since it's already confirmed that the Xbox One will work without a Kinect plugged in. Past console launches have taken advantage of separate SKUs at different price points with different features. Even though Microsoft seems to be firm on this, it has gone back on plenty of Xbox One policies already. I wouldn't give up hope on a Kinect-free bundle just yet. It may take a year or two, but I think there's a chance.

if I have to buy a kinect with an xbox one, I simple WILL not buy and xbox one. This is stupid of microsoft. For christ sake, why will they not listen to the people this system is designed for, the gamers.
"Phil Harrison: Xbox One Will Never Come Without Kinect"
Me: I'll never buy the Xbox One with Kinect.
I guess this is goodbye then Microsoft.
They are bent on cramming it down everyone's throat. I don't mind the technology but put it toward something else. Tablets, computers, home appliances, etc. I'm sure there is thousands of folks that would want to tell their thermostat what temp and setting they want it to be just by using their voice. There is so many other applications for Kinect to be applied to why they insist on throwing it into gaming astounds me.
Oh well give it a month or more and they'll backtrack again. This guy maybe misinformed like all the other talking heads at MS, and this coming from a longtime Xbox owner.
I don't plan to buy either console, mainly because I have a good gaming pc, but its bad for the gaming industry as a whole if Sony has no competition. Nintendo is not going to provide any meaningful competition, so I really hope Microsoft will stop making so many PR mistakes like they have been. Sony may be looking better at the moment but I trust them no more than I trust Microsoft and if they're faced with no competition in the console market that's bad news for everybody.
Xbones will never be sold without Kinect, but everything's tentative.
Don't forget Prism, and other NSA spy programs, it definitely comes with that.
Microsoft you already have proven you are dumb when it comes to what is good and what is not wanted. Take notes from SONY so next time you know what to do. Kinect is fail, fail, fail.
You can practically HEAR the collective exasperated sigh of all the people that really wanted to buy an XboxOne but just couldn't afford it with the extra cost Kinect tacked on. Silly Microsoft... how's the saying? Cutting off your nose to spite your face? Or something?
Until you can convince me that it's a good idea for it to be there, I'll spend my money on a PS4 that isn't trying to push unjustified hardware on me.
I believe this article is not as objective as I expect.
Microsoft is not making any statement they haven't done before. They always said, even after all the 180's, that they will always include a kinect with every console.
ALWAYS INCLUDE WITH EVERY CONSOLE
The original question was:
what will happen if my kinect goes bad or I break it?
You will still be able to use the xbox one, without the kinect functionality.
Writers then interpreted that they will eventually ship the console without it, since it will work without it anyway.
I have criticized their radical policies since E3, which they now have changed for the better, but this is getting ridiculous.
Now I am starting to wonder if the press is on microsoft just to make them fall or to report news.
Yeah, yeah. Wait one week and they will announce that it WILL come without the Kinect.
They will eventually come to their senses and make a kinect free bundle. Their going to loose tons of money and fans if they don't.
It is going to be interesting to see what devs come up with. Having the thing from the get go has more incentive to focus on it over the previous kinect that was added later on and everything related felt gimmicky and forced in.
Kinect Sucks. motion controls are not up to par and all they do is make the games basic versions of what they should be. If it isnt included free of charge then you are getting ripped off by microsoft...again
