The Playroom Comes Pre-Installed On PS4s

by Tim Turi on Aug 20, 2013 at 08:09 AM

Sony announced today that a piece of free software will come pre-installed on all PlayStation 4 consoles. The title is called The Playroom, and appears to be a collection of augmented reality games showing off the PS4’s capabilities for new owners.

The sliver of gameplay Sony showed involved players sitting on couches while watching themselves play the game on screen via the system’s camera. UFOs float around zapping players’ heads, creating the on-screen illusion that their head has started of fire. Another enemy electrocutes a player, and the game superimposes a skeleton over their image to make it look like they’re being shocked.

Playroom looks like a simple, cute way to show off the PS4’s unique AR abilities. Even if it’s only on par with the 3DS’s AR Games, you can’t beat the price tag.
