The lights are on
3D printing website Shapeways found success with a full set of Final Fantasy VII characters care of modeler Joaquin Baldwin, until Square Enix decided to legal action and prevent further figure sales.
Baldwin's figures became popular on Reddit, which caused a surge in sales of the 3D printed figures. Sqaure Enix took notice and sent Shapeways a takedown notice. Baldwin and Shapeways complied. The figures had been on sale for a little more than a month. Speaking with CNET, Baldwin said "Standard procedure. Just like a video in YouTube using copyrighted music can be pulled down," in regard to the request from Square Enix to remove the figures from the store.
Baldwin still has a few video games item in his shop, like this cool Dog from Half-Life 2 figure holding a companion cube.

Our TakeThese figures are very cool. It's unfortunate that they are no longer available, but I certainly understand Square Enix's actions. Since these figures are no longer for sale through Shapeways or Baldwin, it's up to Square Enix to mass produce them now. If nothing else, Baldwin has proven that people like to see the characters from Final Fantasy VII as they truly were, as opposed to how they looked in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which is the model typically used for Final Fantasy VII licensed collectibles.

these look way better than any overpriced crap se would sell,if i had know about them i might have bought a couple :(
I would have bought them all. I dont know what they cost ,but i now if square makes now they will cost too much.
i feel like they should of made a deal with them so they could keep selling
Square-Enix is like my 3 and under kids and their toys. They act like some toy doesn't exist until one of the others takes interest in it, then it's like it is the sole purpose of being to control that ONE toy! The demand for anything and everything FFVII is unbelievable, yet SE constantly ignores an obvious cash cow in lieu of some nonsense business gamble. Look how much money has been wasted trying to get FFXIV on its feet! Copyright law needs a major overhaul to stop companies from hoarding IP when there is a clear market in play
I would've bought some! :(
I completely understand them wanting to put an end to these sales, but the worst part of all this is that they probably won't make them themselves. And that is incredibly stupid, and a huge waste.
They look very nice, though I completely understand why Square would want to take it down.
These are way cooler than the realistic looking ones.
God those are cool
This is just another example of why copyright laws need to be abolished. They only lead to fantastic items like this being shutdown. If everyone could just learn to share then we wouldn't have this problem.
I wish I would've known about these! I think Square Enix did a good thing taking them down though.
First: these were awesome, but SE was well within their rights and smart to have them pulled...
Second: I'm proud to see the absence of rage that I expected to see in the comments section (admittedly, I didn't read them all...but enough to obtain an average). Pat yourself on the back GIO, you have collective common sense and decency; that is awesome and makes me happy to be a part of the community.
I doubt anyone is surprised by Squeenix protecting their stuff. The figures look pretty cool. I would like to get a 3D printer.
So I can make 3D Printers with it.
This adds to the nostalgia factor. To bad they can't be bought anymore.:(
